Need info on oil for axle chain levels

Thanks for your help on my bearing questions on my old Case 1840. Got it buttoned up. Seems like I need 30# oil in there now. Can anyone give me an idea how much oil it takes or where the level should be? Thanks Joe.

6 qts. Drain and rinse out old oil/water. Shine a light to check for debris prior to refill. I have found broken links, pieces of bearings and gasket material.

My 1845C calls for 5 quarts each side. Mechanic told me you want just enough for the chain to pick it up and bring it around.
