Nice!! Glad I'm not the only one. Expensive, yes! I've decked it out with top, front and back windshield, but I think I'll let the bank account recover before outfitting anymore. The EPS is nice isn't it? I've already added something to the project list for the loader and that is trail cutting. Would like to make a road around the perimeter of the place.

Had a chance to head over to the place this past weekend for a little work. Had to get a little riding in too.

Was a cold morning, but the loader fired right up. Dad backing out of barn. We decided to tackle a little tree job.

Ready to work and play. The little white house across the road (pictured above the loader bucket) had a trail of white smoke coming out of the chimney. Can't see it in the picture, but I started to go over and ask if I could sit by their fire. Looked pretty cozy on a cold January day.

Hope you enjoy the loader hunt. It's not easy to find one you want or would like to have. Lot of factors at play. But part of that is fun.

You might remember a few pages back we'd planted a little oak tree by the barn. Of all the trees on the place, the bucks had to rub all the bark off of the poor thing. Don't know if it would've made it. It would've struggled to thrive. Here's my little helper checking the soil samples.

Earlier this year, before the leaves all fell, we marked a couple of potential transplants from the edges of the woods. We were trying to get them transplanted in January and we made it on the last day.

We marked off two spots for two new trees.

We debated on keeping this tree, but it was right where we wanted a good tree and so we evicted it.

Thanks RC.

Bob, I don't think you could go wrong with either a '53 or '63.

We just pushed the surrounding growth out and plucked up the first little tree

The width of the bucket grabs everything around it...

My little boy eats and breathes bulldozers and excavators. So much so, he'd rather ride with his Pa-pa on the loader than with me in the Ranger.

Off to get the second tree up the hill. Crossed a wet spot where we weren't sure how hard the bottom was. It's our typical crossing spot in the summer, but in the winter, the little stream is flowing and you never know.

Second tree extracted

He finally decided to ride with me.

Even ole blue started on this cold day

It's evident they've been on the edge of the woods fighting for sunlight. All the branches are on one side.

Put some posts up and we'll fence these in to keep the deer out.

Doing great RC. They're both budding out. They're surrounded by about 5 strands of barb wire - should be no deer worries this time. I have a few picture from some work we did a couple of weeks ago. Haven't had time to sort them yet. Will try to post them up soon.

Had a thunder storm blow through this weekend and took out the maple in front of my grandmother's house. Thankfully it didn't land on the house. Only took off a gutter and landed on the power line running to the house and actually bent the nearby support pole over. Figured it would've pulled the wire off the house before it moved a poll. The support pole evidently wasn't very deep and had no guy-wire. Utility department came out and cleared the line and restored power in just a couple of hours. Will have to go clean up the rest of the mess this weekend.

The following pictures are an assortment of several small odd jobs that dad, brother and I tackled couple of weeks ago.

Replaced faulty utility light located on the pole pictured in the background. Couple of neighbors had reported the light was turning on and off 5 minutes at a time all night long. Sorry neighbors  We got rid of the overhead wires and put in some UF wire in a little trench. These pictures come in handy. I took similar shots of the trench we dug for the fuel tank pump. I was able to pull the old trench up on my phone before we started digging and knew right where the other line was. Had we known we'd be doing this couple of years ago, we'd laid wire both at the same time. Oh well.

I will confirm nor deny whether we used the loader to replace the light. The left track is a little loose in this picture. It needs tightening about every 3 months. It was tightened shortly after this picture.

Got a load of way overdue gravel for our entrance way. This is the same contractor that hauls our loader when we need it moved. They show up on time every time. We were standing at the barn when we heard his truck bellowing through the hollers. I had to race over on the ranger to flag him to this spot.

Several unseen holes in here made for a rough entrance and exit.

I bladed it with ole blue.

I'm no expert with a box blade. We spent a few minutes with rake and shovel to make it look good.

Could've used about 3 or 4 more loads to build this up.

The old cabin was in need of some TLC. We didn't give it much, but maybe enough to add a couple of years to its life. The bottom logs were either rotten or gone. The old pillars were rolled on just about every corner. She had dropped all over.

The termite damage is really visible here. Our main goal was to get the outer shell off the ground. We didn't mess with the floor. We took out what was left of the rotten logs on the bottom, jacked up the corners and built it up with blocks. When we ran out of blocks on the last corner so we used some treated 4x4s laying around to crib it up. It's not pretty, but we were going for function.
