There is a paint called SEM and they do have Cat yellow. No need to cut down, but can add hardener. It is very thin and doesn't have a lot of solids, but it holds and wears nice. I have been useing on plow blades and it has held up well. Pricing not bad. Can put right int the HVLP gun and spray.

I got some color sprayed today and should be ready to slap the tracks on tomorrow and drive it out so I can paint the blade.

The paint job looks good. I have used lots of martin senior paint myself. I painted my camaro with it and it looks better than any factory paint job I've seen.

Is the customer you are painting the dozer for planning on keeping it or selling it? I like a shinny piece of equipment as much as the next guy but I have a hard time spending money and man hours to paint equipment that I know will just get all scratched up again in everyday work. Now if I was selling a piece of equipment, a couple thousand dollar paint job can sell equipment and often times you can make money on the paint job.

Cat only offers a enamel paint now they used to have a urtahne enamel that was better but the epa must have put a stop to it.

Here are a few from today I still have to put the glass back in and paint the blade and have the rest of decals on order should be in tomorrow

Nice looking job, any idea how many hours it took to do the job from start to finish? I've painted a lot of stuff over the years, but never a dozer, I'll second that about not a favorite job.

Yes Randy I can tell you exatly up to now I have 74 hours still have the blade, rear screen, to paint, windows to install and a little assembly left probably have 90 hours when complete. I estimated 80 hours but live and learn. worst thing was it was a bid job and I matched cats price to find out later they dont prime, remove tracks, or glass for the price that I matched but I know for next time.

Finished

Been to busy to post for a couple weeks but I got a couple finished shots of the machine, The only thing missing was the D6H decals they had to come from the supplier and the machine went to work before they showed up.

I also had to do some line boring while it was here the equalizer bar and mounting bosses for it needed some attention. I also bored both outside holes they were bad and I had to weld and bore the bore for the seal which is almost a inch biger than the bearing bore.

They always seem to take those equaliser bar bores to the limit:D I have done a few lately where it was just machine everything out and start again. Hardly ever is it a quick run of weld between the circlip grooves and machine. The dozer owners must feel sorry for us underpaid machinists and want to give us the extra work:D
