Laptop issues retains to cat sis an ET

    hello guys I’m guessing I’m in the rite place with my issues, well I purchased a tuff book with cat software installed an bout the ET with comm adaptor 3 , well sometimes ET hooks up an most of the time it throws the 142 code (witch retains to no communication) I’ve tryed multiple times to get the knuckle heads that sold me the unit to go threw team viewer an look it over, well they did one time an we finally got ET to work an when I had it hooked to my service truck I went into my ecm while he was there online with me while he was useing team viewer, well when I tryed to troubleshoot a active code ET asked for a caterpillar user name an passed, an when I asked him about that he told me to write the code down an look it up in sis, An when I went to calibrations an tryed changing settings to my ecm like mph or turning differ things in ecm on or off it has the screen to pop up again asking for usernames an passwords. An if I electronically disconnect from ET an try to rehook it up it gives the 142 code again, well I’ve been going in circles emailing the company for help an I can’t get any response back nor a tech service phone number for help, I use to work for a local cat dealer here an they want help due to I’m a field tech that got laid off yrs ago an they don’t want the Lil guys to have the software. I’m at the end of my biting my toung with the guys I purchased it from. Is there anyone out there that can help with my issues. Glade to pay for some tech support an help here. I’ve begged on several occasions for the guy to call me but he want An rarely responded to emails for tech support

    Sounds like you've got a couple of different problems. I'll have a go at answering, but with a knock-off ET license, things can get complicated.

    1. Communication error. Which version of ET do you have? In earlier versions you have to set the COM port via the preferences menu. In effect this means that the comm adapter can only use one specific USB port on your computer. If you plug it into the wrong one, it won't work.
    2. Clicking "troubleshoot code". This will try and connect you to Cat's web SIS. If you don't have a web SIS account, don't use the troubleshoot code button. Instead write down the code and search in whatever version of SIS you happen to have.
    3. Changing configuration settings. If a setting has a Key symbol next to it, it will require a password, either customer or factory. Factory passwords have to be obtained through a dealer. There are other suppliers who advertise factory password generators, but I've never used one so I can't comment on whether they work or not.

    Chris, would u post the name of the co. that sold u the "program".. so others looking for cat programmers, can steer clear?? {Theres been a few here over the years}..
    Nothing worse than paying thousands of dollars for a tool that doesn't work..!!! Thanks

    ECHONETSYSINC. These guys assured me from get go that I’d have no issues with there products nor have issues with tech support an told me that they would provide me
    With a tech service phone number for help with system, Well I purchased a refurbished laptop with cat software on it an I’m guess an dang Chinese version of ET comm adaptor 3. An it does crazy stuff an want read ecms at times an I also bought the nexiq truck diagnostics from him an he has not yet even tryed to help me install toy laptop, well since then I’ve contacted another guy that sells the software an I’ve been on Teamviewer for nearly 2 days trying to get this crap fixed an gonna cost me prob nearly what hole cat software did in first place. An not to mention this is the second time I’ve been had dealing with cat software an people from over seas ...... getting hard to bite my toung an be politely about it

    Paid for it with a credit card?

    Document everything.

    Contact the company, ask to return it to them and be refunded.

    If they will not play ball, dispute the charge on the card. Reason for disputing, the thing does not work as advertised, it is not a useful piece of merchandise, just junk.

    Be nice but firm about it.

    Though of returning the laptop but I used debit card An I can use the sis software but the ET is given more fits than anything I also bought the nexiq truck software for big trucks an the guy that is trying to help sort all my mess out can’t help with nexiq cause he don’t sell the software an he said that is not sold anymore
