Here is a land clearing job I am currently working on. My nephew has a brand new Diamond disc type forestry head that he is breaking in on this job. He cuts down the trees up to about 10" diam., shreds them up & I am pushing up the leftovers into piles with the D6C. Works good.

This is the same project as shown earlier, only further along. After the brush clearing was completed, site survey work was completed & excavation work was started about 3 weeks ago. Now we are almost finished excavating for this private industrial landfill (non toxic) for the customer. The cell excavation covers about 3 acres of area & part of the perimeter is bermed up to ensure containment of any potential migration of water from the site. Has been a wet fall up here & somewhat challenging working in the clay, but almost there now! Still have to lay the under drainage system on the cell floor once the excavation is completed.

I have a forestry mulcher. They seem to work much better than the disk mulchers. My question is why use either? When you are doing that type of job, why not rake it with a wheel loader and haul or burn all the 'waste'?

Actually we found the disc type mulcher to outperform the drum type (if that's what you mean't) as the disc will shred the still standing trees & with the drum type once they are on the ground it is hard to grind them up we found. With the shredded trees and bush they just got stripped along with the topsoil, thus less hauling. No burning was allowed on that site. Site was way to wet to work with wheel loader.

Here we are wrapping up the excavation portion of the cell & now have the underdrainage system installed as of this afternoon. Have to build a road out to service the manhole yet & do a bit of berm shaping yet...……. Lots of rainy wet weather working in this clay, but we are finally almost there.
