I have a 2020 95-2 we replaced the engine on. We timed it when we had the head off, but didn't tighten down the nut on the injector pump and it sheared the roll pin after we started it. So we need time it again. We made the mistake of pulling the idler pulley. Is there a way to do that without taking the head off? It's a kubota v3800t engine.

I've been told there are 2 ways to time it, one involving pulling the valve cover and #1 injector, the other involving pulling the front cover. Are there other options? Which method is fastest?

SPEED shouldn’t be a factor..
ACCURACY should be at the top of the list..
U can pull the v cover, watch the valves.. pull # 1 injector and put a wooden dowel down the hole..
And even that method isn’t accurate..

I don’t understand why u need to time the engine.?? Unless u took the gear out..
Replace the roll pin and tighten everything up..??

Yes I took the idler gear out thinking the timing was lost already. Then of course realized it wasn't. Thanks for the info! Pulling the front cover is not bad as I thought it would be. Got it all lined up with gasket maker drying for a test tomorrow morning. ozarkag thanks for pointing out those threads. We fixed a 3000 hr. 299d3 with a seized pump last fall.

Sounds good! If you need parts feel free to PM me. . .
Many of these pumps etc are available at reputable diesel shops.
