Good Morning!

glad to find a board that has a little action. Slim Pickens out there.

I just bought an old Komatsu forklift and looking for any help identifying it. Has no ID plate that I can find, no markings of any sort either. seller wasn’t sure on model either. Story I got was it was his grandfathers for the last 15 years and he didn’t know much about it.

I’ve googled and googled and can’t find anything that indicates exactly what it is.

If you have any ideas, let me know. I'm thinking it’s a “15” model but can’t find another with gas tank in same location to be certain.

Thank you

Here is a shot:
Sit on truck, get off to your right side, turn around stand and face the truck. Raise the hood. Look down at the top flat flange /rolled portion of the frame. should find the numbers there. Will be between the rear end of frame at counterweight and where the the front of hood touches when down.

thank you! I’ll give that a whirl tomorrow. I did find a 6 digit number stamped on the front left side by the tilt hydraulic cylinder. I’m assuming it’s a serial number of sorts.

I’m assuming it’s an FG15 at this point. Had a 4P 1493cc motor (Toyota)

Yeah where u found the number stamped is where they would normally be. Not sure of the year but it looks to be 80’s vintage

Doubt if that is a truck SN. Probably for that tilt. Should be on a non removable location, hence the frames. Do not know present paint schemes, but in the later 80's; when KO first showed up around here, they were all yellow. Later (90's) they had gone to a blue and white stripe scheme. No help here, but k:-2012, L-2013, M-2014, N-2015, no 0, P-2016, Q-2016, R-2017,
S-2018. T-2019....

I’m saying it may have been stamped in the fender which is part of the frame I believe. Just going from memory which ain’t much good lol I thought they had a number stamped in the fender in front of the firewall basically. I used to know. At one time I had almost 200 of them they were 12,13,14’s

Good Morning! thanks for all the input.

So the only thing I can find is the left front fender, there is something stamped in it, but I can only make out the portion after the dash, which is 110772 (I think)
I assume this 110772 is the serial number for the forklift?

I tried cleaning up the engine, to get a number off of it and I found what I would assume to be a serial number plate, but its blank. The inconsistent swirl marks in it make me wonder though, almost like an angle grinder was taken to it. But if it was, it was years and years ago as I had a lot of oil and dirt gunk to get off before I could see the metal.

The motor does say 1493cc and 4P, so I know what the motor is.
Just can't find much info on it like what oil to run.

I was able to find a couple manuals for the 4P from other forklifts that ran that motor.

I think there should be a letter leading the number or closing it Probably prior to the dash you refer to. Might scrape or sand/buff a little harder in that area. From southernman13's info and your find, then that should be it.

I was able to sand it down and the full number appears to be M016D-110772

Not sure what the M016D part is. But I believe the serial number is 110772

Most of the Komatsu forklifts in early 80 were all yellow paint. Numbers were typical FG15 x123456. Where the FG was Forklift, Gas, 15 was capacity. X was a letter denoting year of mfg, the the actual SN.
Picked this up somewhere in my 14 years of dealing in forklifts. Could be accurate, might not.

Komatsu Forklift Year By Serial Number
K = 2012. L = 2013. M = 2014. N = 2015. P = 2016.
Q = 2016. R = 2017. S = 2018. T = 2019.
