Ecomax 4.4L engine 400hrs
Machine shut down during operation and will not restart. Dealer came out changed lift pump and common rail, still no start. Dealer now says needs injection pump and 4 injectors.
I came out to try and help the customer as they have allot of our equipment. No active codes. Machine cranks normal speed and does smoke a little bit. capped injector lines off one by one and when number 2 is capped off it stops smoking during cranking. Checked rail pressure with laptop, 4800-5200 psi during cranking. Removed return lines from injectors, only number 2 has a small amount of fuel coming out while cranking. Removed return line from rail relief and it has fuel coming out during cranking, JCB says this can be normal because it has an electronic rail relief and that with 5000 psi it should start. unplugging each injector causes an error code which seems to tell me that the wiring is ok. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

This pan disease is so interesting, it's a pity that I'm just reading this post now!
This disease has probably been solved. But I also want to contribute to making the discussion more lively. Have you checked the firing timing (timing gear, G sensor, NE sensor...)?

The original failure I believe to be the injectors. This engine has full piezo electric crystal injectors which do not use fuel pressure to actuate the pintle. From my research there has been allot of issues with the injectors seizing up if the engine is run out of fuel. Which the customer stated originally that the machine has been for a while and suspected bad filters. However either the other dealer or the customer attempted to start the engine using ether. when I pulled the injectors to install new, the #1 injector would not come out of the head and found damage to the tip. Checked cylinder with a camera and found the valves broken off and smashed up Piston.
