Insight on 259D

Anyone have any insight on the 259D, we have 2 - 2013 259B3 and they have been great for us, we were hoping to buy 2 more but our salesman came in and said they are sold out, and the new ones are 259D with tier IV stuff....:confused:

The improvements look nice. A lot of the electrical stuff has already been out on the big D series. Kubota has a good reputation but time will tell how the new engines perform.

So is this machine going to come with a DPF?

The machines with the 3.3L Kubota have a DOC/DPF and meet final Tier 4 emissions. DPF appears to be mounted behind cab above motor under radiator, exhaust exits behind cab on left side.

The 3.8l Kubota's also have a DOC/DPF but only meet Interim Tier 4 at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if Cat added SCR to them. Both engines are in their own emissions bracket (50-75hp and 75-175hp) so they have slightly different standards to meet.

What is DOC and SCR?

Diesel Oxidation Catalyst is kind of like a Cat on a car, it contains precious metals that oxidize Hydrocarbons and CO2. DOC's are generally all "pass-through" design meaning even though it may look like a messy web, each channel is not capped and therefore the exhaust flows through "freely" whereas on a DPF the ends of each channel are capped and the exhaust must pass through the filter media in order to exit the machine. Since DOC's do not "collect" and store anything, they do not require very much service however just like the Cat in a car, certain things can cause them to fail or wear out and need replacement.

Selective Catalytic Reduction, the same stuff on your 6.7L powerstroke. SCR is the system that uses DEF to reduce NOX into H20 and Hydrogen.

No the 3.3L does not have SCR so it uses no DEF. It meets Tier 4 Final without it so it wont be getting it anytime soon either. The 3.8L currently does not use DEF either but it only meets iT4 standards. To come into full compliance I would expect it to use it.
