Skadill; Another great vidoe you have posted

That HD truck is from 1961 - sn: #1012174 - think about it - still going strong after 50 years. Quote you: "Most Hayes dont have a former life - they just keep going" well said:D It's a HD 29-70. Maybe HDX can add some history. It had a 290 HP Cummings (HD "29"-70). 29 indicates horsepower multiplied with 10:)

Sorry you guys Truck is NOT a HD 29-70 That truck has a rigid frame that makes her an HDX She has had a cab change and the build plate was left in her The original truck was an HD owned by Kenneth Thomson from Ladysmith I dont know but what she might have been one of the contract trucks hauling for Crown Z at their Ladysmith Operation back in 1961 Somewhere along the line she was parted out and the cab installed on this truck. Skadill --next time you get near her crawl in behind the left front wheel (steering) and look around (behind) where the front wheel brake air line comes through the frame and you will find the real serial # stamped there!!! You are looking for a 4 digit number (after 1970) or a 7 digit number prior to 1970 numbers stamped there will be either 1/4 or 3/8ths cause they used both at the factory

HDX; thanks for corrections - funny when I posted text above I wrote HDX - then took a quick look at #sn plate - it said HD - so I cancelled the "X" - LOL but looking at Skadills video - for sure it's an HDX

Thanks, Hayesno1! I think T-330 is ex-QCD H-259. It would make sense, too, as 258 is now T-329. Do we have any members working for "The Duke" that could get her serial number??

Spent two hours out today taking pictures of about 50 trucks. Found T330 no plate left in her but found old highway crossing permit . May not be for this truck ,It says Kenworth 1976, ser # 7063271 no way of knowing if they goofed on the make or not ,but HDX should know if it is a valid Hayes ser#

Sad to see a pretty old lady ending up like that. That sn# must be from Hayes truck - according to sn# it must be from june 1967 and consecutive "3271" fits in that year. HDX and Trakloader can add futher information.. sad sad...:crying

075 Thank you very much for your contribution with these pictures. It is people like you and many others on here that will make this Forum a success. There is so many guys that hang back and just peek in and look around because the think they have nothing to contribute when in fact this is not true. This whole thing is based on things we have all seen or done or in some cases wished we had done.A lot of what we are seeing here today is all because somebody took the time to go out and take pictures and share them with the whole world. The forest industry here on the coast is unlike anywhere else in the world and for that very reason people cant get over what we deal with on a daily basis. For everybody to step up and share their pictures speaks volumes of who we really are and where we are from Again Thank You

Speaking of contributions, I will be getting some photos of an old Clipper with some sort of yarder on the back, it's in real rough condition, in the back of a mill, but it's really cool as it has some really neat history to it. It's a highway truck converted to some sort of winch machine, I don't know until I take abetted look at it. There are other pieces of equipment there as well, I'll get a lot of photos of them all. Great stuff her, keep it up.

M&B QCD J-91, ex-H-221

I always wondered what truck this was, before she was converted to a spar carrier, then later a goat. I got the serial # today, 6012901. I believe this was H-221, right HDX? When they converted it, the new number was J-91. They simply removed the tower, then backed into the boneyard and blocked up the A-frame. A few cuts, and the truck drove away without the A-frame. The ram and saddle were removed, etc. and fuel tank re-located.

The goat replaced the earlier single drum linehorse, and was a much more versatile machine, having two big drums and a strawline. They used to go out and pre-rig the tower settings, so all the stubs were all strung out, and the tower would simply move in and hook up to them. The J-91 was the last truck on the claim with 5x4 sticks. I think Archie was the only guy that could drive it!
