More work today. Two more hoses made and installed. Just need to wire up the air switch. The reverse light harness got installed (needs to be wired up)and the floors got put back together. The switch work was done from the top. Yesterday i installed my long awaited mudflaps. I was the hold up. I have started fitting the rubber fender. Still have a lot of clean up work to do.

The jury is out on this one still..I was given a half roll of DOT approved reflective tape..I came up with a plan. My angle tools, templates, tape measure and scissors. It was alot of work. Not sure if i like it but it will certainly work.. Not a bumper I would want to run into..

I got the left rear rubber fender all done today and have the other side all ready to start drilling. My rivets were a bit short so I used 10/24 ss machine screws and ss serated flange nuts. The ex phoned and wanted to go for lunch so I will finish this tomorrow..

No cleaning today..Put some time in yesterday. Just the roof and the top of the hood then (green crap) its will get a standard wash. Busy engineering a way to open the very heavy 1/8 thick steel hood. Two trucks do have aluminum hoods.Lots of math and research. Pretty sure i have it figured out. I will talk about when I am positive...I need to get the Red Dot wrapped in satin black as well...

Pretty sure i have the hood thing figured out. I am thinking to 2 linear actuators. They would have to be on the outside because if something went wrong you are screwed. They will be visable. Close to the front inside top of the fenders headed up to just above the Cummins emblem. I dont need 2 but i will do it. A controller will be used to sync them. I can adjust the speed and set the end stops. Each actuator can move 165Lbs..It is all available locally and no chinese junk. I have a little more research to do..

Would air assist cylinders under the hood work? Just enough to get it started?

The big truck fiberglass hoods have springs on the hood cables. They stretch out as the hood closes. Our one mack has multiple and is tight/strong enough that you almost have to push the hood down to latch it.

Top of radiator mount to sides of the hood. And the springs don't care if the batteries are dead.

We've got a HVAC cart, and I used to be around some other equipment that used linear actuators, and I'm not a super big fan. There's no give in them, and I think driving down the road, it's going to want to crack out something where they mount.

Still thinking this through. I have thought about air assist. I plan on keeping the hood strapped down with its original stuff..

I think something under the hood would be better too. Springs similar to what they use for lifting heavy ramps on trailers, springs on cables like Crane Op suggested or gas struts. It would be better to have to push the hood down some than needing a lot of force to lift it. Something on the outside would look too redneck or second thought and take away from the beauty of the truck.

I have zero room under the hood. Truck has a very narrow (34") frame rail spacing...I need to do something !!
