I've got a Komatsu PC50UU-1 with a 3 cylinder komatsu engine. Always been a slow starter, in cold weather requiring a sniff of starting fluid. I finally got around to testing the glow plugs and found 2 out of 3 not working. I've gotten 3 new ones to install, today. What is the rule of thumb for time for preheat? I turn the key backwards to energize the glow plugs. Do I wait 15 seconds, 30 seconds or what. I know not to use ether after preheating. Does too long of "on time" burn out the glow plugs? Can I cycle them once, try to start and if no start is there any advantage to cycling them again?
Thanks,
Greg
