not enough fluid circulating, filters, strain in bottom storage tank, damaged return line, air in system, which self bleeds air out, low on fluid, close all cylinder rods to check and refill,,, if just one cylinder rod may be bent, or may be cylinder has a ding in it

What he said, or it could have a suction leak or water in the oil, both of which will cause foaming, which will cause jerkiness.
