What is the proper engine oil to use in a 6-71 detroit engine? I've been told a straight grade and I've been told a multigrade, which is best?

staight grade oil is what they ( detroit) call for. Just make sure it meets the specs for Detroit engines. some straight weight oils will have too high an ash content for detroits

Thanks guys.. I talked to my lube provider, did some investigating online and came up with an oil that I feel comfortable using. Meets the low ash specs nicely.
