- General Manager, Sarasota Trucking (dump trucks)
Hi y'all--
In 10 days I'll be the new General Manager of a dump truck company with 10 trucks + 6 owner/operators! This is the first time the owner has had a "professional" manager; she's done it herself since opening the doors 9 years ago.
I have a background in over-the-road transportation, plus management of a fleet of semi-trailers and medium or light duty trucks (only 3 tractors). And I have a degree in Logistics.
In the big corporation I'm leaving I've been responsible for movement of tens-of-millions of dollars in freight traveling about 3.5 million total miles per year throughout the US and Canada in a 24/7, time-sensitive operation, but I feel like I've just been a cog (maybe an important one!) in a huge, impersonal machine. Now I'll be responsible for the livelihood of about 12 people and a whole bunch of one person's money, working in an environment where $1000 is "real money"!! This is totally new....
I'm really looking forward to this change, and am proud that this successful businesswoman thinks I bring enough to the table that she wants me to run her "baby" for her, plus teach me everything I need to know about dump trucking. I'm also nervous as hell!!
I'm very glad this forum is here, and covers such a complete range of stuff that I'm sure to need advice on!
So thanks for being here, and I'll be talking to you again soon!
