Hi Mr. Eng,

I’m Eng. Bashar from Jordan.
I’ve seen your posts and really appreciate the technical information you share — thank you for that!

I’d like to ask about the different types of transmissions used in heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, backhoe loaders, and skid steers.

What’s the difference between Full Power Shift, Auto Shift, Power Shuttle, synchro shuttle and Manual transmissions in terms of operation, performance, and fuel efficiency?

Also, I’d like to know:
Which of these types are considered automatic and which are manual?
And which ones have a clutch pedal, and which operate without a clutch (hydraulic or electronic shifting)?

Thanks a lot for your support, Mr. Eng.
Hope you’re doing well!

Welcome to the Forums Bashar! Glad to have you.

Unfortunately I'm not a mechanic so I can't explain the differences, we just run the machines.

Other members on the Forum have vast knowledge of the differences so maybe they'll chime in.
