So I have a low hour 325g and Im trying to stay on top of the weak points of it. I hear bucket pins are one of those. It seems the tapered end is inserted from inside to outside and the taper fits into the loader arms correct? What causes the failures? The retaining bolt loosening? Is there a retrofit available to switch this to a straight pin? Seems to me a guy could maybe line bore the loader end straight to remove the taper? Thoughts?

Deere is not the only one with pins like this, actually most all of them have tapered pins that go from inside out and i can't say for others but Bobcats upper bucket pins are the same way. You are correct though that retaining bolt gets lose and let's the pin come unseated from the bore. The biggest issue with this is since it is tapered the slightest lateral movement makes the pin incredibly lose. Those bolts are something that I check when I do a PM service and if they are questionable just replace them. If or when one does come lose and destroy the loader frame pin boss they really are not that difficult to cut off the old ones and weld the new bosses in place. Doing them in the field is a little more time consuming unless you carry a steam cleaner around on your service truck.
