Hi Fellas, wondering if anyone has had any issues with a Cat 980B loader with very low torque issues in first gear forward and reverse? Seems to be getting worse, it does get better once it heats up but still very sluggish. With a bucket full of gravel it almost does not pull out of a gravel pit like it used to.

Not that familiar with Cat convertors. Some have a rotating third member that rotates under no or minimum load but is made with cams instead of roller bearings so when the convertor gets under a load the third member locks up to give torque multiplication when those cams wear out and slip you don't get the full torque. The other thing to check first is if the engine is making full stall speed, the convertor has to have full stall speed to make full torque. If the machine acts normal in the higher gears but only weak in low could be first gear clutch slipping. if your convertor is separate from the trans. put the loader against the bank in low gear lock up the brakes and go to full throttle and see if the drive shaft convertor to trans is moving, if it is the low clutch is slipping.
