I have a 92V 7G, in the process of going through both finals. Tore the Rh final down and found the dead axle turns, in fact I removed it by hand. I know this isn’t ideal. The spanner nut was against the frame but I could tell the shaft was about 3/8”-7/16” from being pressed in all the way, previous owner said they replaced it. I’m certain they didn’t get it in far enough for the taper to get tight.
I’ve measured the wide part of the taper with snap gauges and the frame appears to be round still. What are the chances I can freeze it and press a new axle in all the way? I have line boring experience but don’t wish to go that route unless I have to. Haven’t found anyone that has experience making a tapered sleeve and getting the axle set at the correct depth.
I do have a cat 70 ton final drive press cylinder and a single acting 100 ton. It looks like I’ll have to make my own adaptors that thread into the tractor frame and links to the press, I’m having trouble finding any of it online.
Thanks
