Cub lowboy 185 electrical problem

I put a new starter/generator on her the other day couldn't get her to start so I went to check the voltage at the coil and it had 12 going in and - 30 going out. It says in the videos I looked at online that the wires are backwards but I never took them off to change the starter. Anyone with any ideas please thank ya
