Hello, all.
I'm brand new to this forum and had just created this profile specifically to ask you guys for some advice on my future career paths. I am currently 21 and am playing college football in Vancouver BC and despite my receiving a university education I don't intend on doing anything with a degree in Phil so I would like to get out once I graduate to get into trades as either a heavy equipment operator or a crane operator. I can see myself enjoying both careers and also both pay well (crane more than HEO) and both are predicted to be in high demand in Vancouver in the next 10 years.

These are my questions:
- which job is easier to get an apprenticeship in?
- based on your experienced, which job seems more rewarding and fun and which jobs are more stressful?
- which job is more suitable for raising a family?
- how often do workers get laid off/are jobs consistently available?
- what happens in the event of heavy snowfall? Can one get a side job as a snow plow?
- pros and cons of each
- what are possible advancements once one reaches status of "operator"
- are there any crane operators and heavy equipment operators form Vancouver/Lower Mainland that can give me some insight about the industry in the area?
