The cream on the top is a good way to put it. You want 50% discharge cycles or less. If you run out of power, then you're killing the batteries. Ten years is possible out of batteries, not typical, there's a number of cycles lifetime also. If you're discharging it deeply, you'll never get the number of cycles they're rated for either.

With all the hassle of a generator running a trickle charger, why not just get an engine powered lift? What's the application and typical duty cycle like?
