In the middle pictures I had tried Ardox pieces but found the old blades wore better and were to be scrapped anyway. Kind of crude looking but if we don’t bolster the ends a set of blades could be ruined in a shift. All welding done with 7018 1/8 rod at about 180 amps. Generally warm up the steel prior and peen after each rod is laid. They wear off before they break off. In the first one we’re using a curved blade as it’s what was in stock at the time.

I’ll find a couple of pictures of what happens when we don’t beef up the ends. Cringeworthy.
