HAVE CATERPILLAR 416 Backhoe SN 5PC15941, Not sure of Year. Transmission works fine for tow or three minutes then appears to disengage, no forward or reverse. All other hydraulics work fine. Turn tractor off and let sit a minute, restart everything works fine for another town or three minutes. Any suggestion as to what to look at?

Thanks,
ROB

Unsure but might be the relay which disengages the trans. Mine has not done this but thinking if the contacts on the relay are corroded or connections, it takes some time to heat up to break the connection

I had one do that it was the shifter control. If yours is electronic it will a bunch of wires coming out of it if it is mechanical it will have linkage also check your neutralizer switch and wiring

Looks like you have a manual control Check to see if you have a short in the neturalizer dis connect it from the solenoid see if it still comes out of gear. put a gauge in the main pressure port of the pump see if you loose pressure. check the pickup strainer just some ideas. get back when you have done this
