Did some more "fitting" tonight. I got the dampers from CAT today, and mounted up the shroud with them in place: http://i.imgur.com/b2qu4F3.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Kt4omXl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/IbYW1R7.jpg

I think the fan is too close for my tastes, it doesn't hit, but certainly very far from centered: http://i.imgur.com/0C2Q6Zz.jpg

I decided to remove the skid plate under the main pumps to get a better look at the jerry-rigged rear mounts: http://i.imgur.com/6X7rRJH.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3UD7Y5Y.jpg

Looking at this picture: http://i.imgur.com/caBh0wk.jpg the pump drive housing is about 3" back from the original mounting holes.

But looking at the bottom pic from the service manual: http://i.imgur.com/PgMJjlM.png I seem to have mounting holes where there should be none, and the spacer blocks shown in that image, I can't find in my parts book.

The previous owner did some horrid welding. Dunno, still quite confused, and not sure this has anything to do with the shroud issue. According to the original rivet holes in the radiator mounting bracket, the shroud is at the factory height.

Are you sure this had a 3208 in I from the start?

I've been discussing this issue with the folks over on the ACMOC forums http://www.acmoc.org/bb/, and here is what a couple of them had to say about my machine and a 3208:

"SIS parts indicates that machines S/N 51U02034 - 51U02831 are powered by 3208 engine"

"It looks like the 3208 came along at SN 51U00590 from the best I can tell from SIS"

So my S/N being 51U2607, it seems like yes, it originally had a 3208.

So, it looks like the blocks that go between the pump drive housing and the upper frame are not separate parts, but supposed to be welded in : http://i.imgur.com/c2W5Xgu.png

I'm wondering what prompted the previous owner to remove those blocks/spacers and then buggar-weld his own bars in there.

One other odd thing is, my 51U2607 is supposed to use the upper frame assembly in the top picture, but it has the mounting bracket from the 61X series machines welded in.
