Case 70xt Final Drive

I recently purchased a 2003 70xt. She runs good for almost 5k hours. Changing fluids. I don't ask unless I can't seem to search out the answer. I'll call the dealer also.

What are the opinions on final drive fluid? Does it just use the system fluid unlike the older gear motor machines? Is there service I should worry about?

Seems like a weak point on these machines and no one is talking about. The manual only touches on the topic.

If you are referring to the chain cases, the manual I have read said 10w-30 motor oil.(manual was for 85, 90 and 95xt models). Nothing too special going on in there, just big chains and sprockets.
Just a matter of draining and refill to plug level.

Negative, you can dump any old motor oil in the chain cases.

I'm talking about the drive motors. I used to have an older 1845C, you had to drain and refill the planetary area and put new gear oil in em' if you wanted good life. Does the newer xt models have this same motor, I see it in there but the exploded view in the manual looks like any old hydraulic pump, maybe I'm missing something?

No planetary final drives in the 70xt to worry about. Just keep your hydraulic fluid reservoir full of good clean 10w-30 motor oil and HTO additive as per the manual. And dump whatever you want in the chain cases. Most of them are running around half full of water anyway.
