The previous owner of our machine ran over something and broke off the shifting lever at the gear box. Our manual does not talk about what has to come apart to remove and replace the shaft. It talks about after you have it on the bench. I am more interested in getting back on! We will likely tackle it at some point but I am only too happy to learn from others experience rather than our swear words alone! Any helpful hints would be appreciated. There are usually a few short cuts when you know what you are doing. We did a cobble job to get it to work when we bought it but will likely have to do more this time. Thanks.

There are 2 different configerations of the transfer case on a 580E. Early ones have the selector out the front of the box (more prone to damage) & later models have the selector pointing to the rear of the machine.
Don't know which you have, but, from memory, both types brought forth swear words....... the early type ones espeacially.
