Is there a way to identify which engine I have outside of teardown? Serial number id corroded off. This is a diesel.

Okay because I have the case 580c manual and it shows both engine sizes.

Just to be sure we are talking about a 580C and not a 580ck or 580Bck, if your machine has a drive shaft to the rear trans/diff it is a C. If you look up under it and it's built like a farm tractor with a loader and hoe mounted around it is a ck or bck. The 188 and the 207 are close in the terms of rebuilding, and some manuals have the 188/207 in the same book. The big thing is bore and stroke, 188 has the 3.8125 bore and 4.125 stroke, the 207 has the 4" bore and 4.125 stroke. The 580Bck was the change up model form 188 to 207 engine and the 580C only had the 207 Engine from the factory.

IIRC the engine should have a engine SN and CID plate just above the pan flange and just ahead of the starter.
