Case 450c dozer missing engine serial number tag

Serial number 3077743

need engine rebuild kit, local dealer saying they need the engine serial number located on aluminum tag on the engine, tag is gone.

Any advice how to figure out specific engine which is in the machine? dealer saying 3 options. seem to be at a standstill with out it.

A 450C should have a Cummins 4T-390. If it has the original engine in it.
The earlier 450's could have either a Case 188 or a 207.

A CNH dealer should only need the machine serial number in order to get parts, unless they were sourcing a rebuild kit from an aftermarket supplier to save you money (or increase their profit margin) - then the engine serial number scenario comes into play.

If you look at the CNH parts listing for your engine - all the engine part numbers that are Cummins based begin with "J" - replace that with a "3" - it becomes a Cummins number.

Any CNH dealer with an ounce of experience should know that.....

Those part numbers should indicate what parts you require - as long as the engine is still the original to the machine

Ok thanks I’ll try a diff dealer. They said there are 3 diff models of engine used in that dozer and it’s a standstill with out the tag

Who is the best Case dealer in the country for customer service?

Parts shouldn’t be too heavy, shipping from across the country not a huge deal, just need a dealer who will figure this out. Dealer we have been working with must be too busy, they are a big outfit w multiple locations, assume they know their stuff.. but need someone to get this done so we can get this project done.

Dale is very knowledgeable. He helped me get a head gasket for a early 188. You would think it wouldn't be that difficult but it was.
