Case 1150B transmission getting hot

A friend has a Case 1150B dozer that the transmission gets hot on after an hour or two of operation. He stops it and lets it cool and goes back to working it. He had a pump on the transmission changed a while back. Where would one start on this? I think he changed the filter but that may be it. Could it be a screen, the cooler, line colasping, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks
Kevin

We need a bit more information to be able to assist. There are a number of things that can cause this.
When he 'stops it & lets it cool', does that mean he shuts it down for a couple of hours? or does he let it idle for a couple of minutes in neutral?
Is the drive/pushing performance affected when it gets hot?
Is there ant noticeable delays in gear selection when cold or hot?
Does the engine temp get affected as well?
How much air is being pushed out the radiator while running? Could it be restricted with dust/mud/oil?
This is always the first place to look, be certain the radiator is clean & clear. Carefully, give the radiator core a good clean, preferably with a pressure cleaner, & let it dry overnight before you put it back to work.

Here is some more info:

The dozer may feel a little sluggish when the tranny temp gets hot but just a little. He does shut it off to cool when it starts getting a high temp, it has done this for the 7 years he has owned it but has not noticed anything getting worse. The tranny shifts fine even when hot and the engine temp does not change when tranny is hot. He doesn't know about the air flow right now.

thanks
Kevin
