We have several Case 586G and 588G rough terrain forklifts and several of them tend to slip a little when you go from neutral to forward or reverse. After they engage its fine until you go to neutral and back into gear. We have changed the circlips on them which helped some but not all of the lifts. Are there other problems that could cause this?

Are they older units? If there's some wear in the front pump and some extra clearance in the clutch packs it will not be crisp when you put it in gear. You said they slip-if you shift and wait 3 or 4 seconds and apply throttle is the slip issue gone? Is it better or worse when it warms up?
