Hello
Is the JD 310 the opposite size of the case 580 series or is the JD 410 closer to the case size, and where does the JD 510 fit in size wise

thanks

You need to tell us if it's a 310 A, B, C, D, E or G. Also the Case has similar numbers. The TLBs get larger as they get newer.

I recommend looking here to find out anything you want about thousands of machines: www.ritchiespecs.com It seems like I'm always looking at it for one thing or another. Sometimes I'm even looking for a spec on one of my pieces!

I know there are more qualified people here that can give better answers, but the Deere 310 is the same class as the 580 and the 410 is the same class as the 590. I don't know what the equivalent is for the 510. Both brands use single letter suffixes to indicate generations (A, B, C or J, K, L for example)

korydz is correct, Deere made the 310 (about like a 580 size, 410 was bigger) , 410 and 500 and 510 they were mid to late 1970's

They made a 310 B for a little while then about 1981 or 1982 came out with the C series. 410C 510C 610 and 710

The old 510 was a beast 17,000 lbs as was the 710 oth had a power shift 8 speed tranny. All of the Deere machines had low less than 2 mph 1st gear at 2700 rpm a detail missed by some, not like I'm old or anything

Some wrong info here.Deere's B series was released in 1983 after a long 7 year de-bugging process. It completely changed the look and set the backhoe bar higher than any other hoe ever up to that time with all it's new innovations. The C's came out later in the late 80's.As the series progressed into D's,E's, G's,and now the J,they evolved into larger machines,so much so that an older bigger numerical rig would be smaller than a newer smaller numerical one.Case in point--my 1983 510B is much smaller in size and performance compared to my 410G.App. 7.5 ton compared to 9 ton.My 510B has a 4 speed shuttle tranny, not a 8 speed PS.

Oops Yes, tuney443 is correct, age is my excuse, but Deere did make a 310 A for a while it was basically the same machine as the 310 then they came out with the B series followed by the C series.

I liked the 8 speed pwer shift trannies in the old 510 and 710 B's mainly becuase you had full hydraulic power at slow travel speed and with it in 1 st gear you could bump the forward shuttle and move ahead for the next dig set.

I never saw a 8 speed in a 510,only in a 710.Like I said myine had a 4 speed with a reverser.

Pre 1982 or whenever Deere came out with the B series, they had three or maybe 4 backhoes, 300, 310, 410 and 510. The 510 of that series was similar size to the later 710B it had a power shift 8 speed tranny the other pre 1982 backhoes had a clutch and manual shift 8 speed transmission. the advantage of the 8 speed was that 1 st gear was low little more than 1 mph so it was possible to put it in drive and move forward to the next dig set without idling down.
