I couple days ago I got a call about giving a quote on what it would cost to remove some granite slabs from a property. I went and looked at it yesterday. I was told there are about 5,000 of these slabs that roughly 1' wide x 2' long x 3" thick. I feel like these surely have some value to someone?? They have been sitting there long enough that the pallets have all but rotted away. That looks like a huge issue to me. So my questions are..... Is there any value here??? If so, what type of a company should I be contacting?? Landscape companies? Rock and stone companies? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I know nothing about this stuff. granite 3.JPGgranite.jpggranite 2.jpg

You're right, someone somewhere will pay big bucks for those things.

Get them out of there and stick adds on Facebook, Craigslist, ebay even and that someone will be in touch.

I live about 20 miles from where these are located. I feel like with Marketplace and Craigslist I would be constantly dealing with people that want 5 or 10 slabs.

Absolutely!! I'm starting to get a feel for the retail price of them. But I would like to get a wholesale number and hopefully find someone to take them all.

I knew a guy long ago who got paid to haul off some rubber molding machines.

And shortly after he had 3 guys making small rubber parts for old British cars, Moss Motors bought all he could make.

Contact your local landscape/hardscape/stone yard that sells to the public. I bet they would take them all.

What's your plan on moving them?

I actually just got the numbers of a couple hardscape companies that I will call in the morning. I don't have a real good plan to move them yet. My initial thought is to rent one of those forklifts that has sides that hydraulically squeeze together and place them on new pallets. Not sure it will work but I feel like it's worth a try. Very limited on space at this location. Semi and flatbed trailer is out of the question. So that would limit it to either a pickup and gooseneck flatbed or a flatbed straight truck of some sort.

My brother runs a landscape company that does a lot of hardscape installs. They bought a stone suction lifter that has really improved their productivity. I think it is one from these guys: https://mquip.com/. Their site says they rent, maybe that’s a cost effective option if you’re not likely to need it again in the future?

Otherwise, I’ve seen slabs moved one at a time using the parallel closing tongs like they use for moving jersey barriers. https://www.garvee.com/products/garvee-716lbs-granite-slab-lifting-clamp-pls-33kfeues

A forklift with a bale or barrel squeezer?

If you got $20 each for them wholesale that's $100K. Well worth the effort even if you have to rent something special to lift them.

This is an incredible find. They pay you to take them? I think I'd be looking at surfacing plates makers as well, it may take some money to get them into shape but some joint out there may take them off your hands cheap but profitably for you. I'd love to have one of them, but who knows what I'd do with it.

How about headstone companies?

93 LBS each, It is humanly possible to lift them.
I'm a Vermonter, but don't live near the granite quarries. I do know people pay big money for granite slabs like these. I'll guess these would be pavers, or stair material.

They could be used as curbs for high end residential or commercial builds.

Reminds me of the granite curbs we run across and remove from time to time down town.

Some kind of critter has taken up residence in them per Lucy.

There is 4-5 tri-axle loads of these at our dump. Going to use them some day... :p
