Ahh, I see the one you are referring to. Yes, way too large for a boom stick. I'd bet it was a bridge log.

I would think a Professional Engineer would have a specific title for a Bridge such as this , but I only know it as a Suspension Bridge . For the distance of the span over a major river this would be one of the most cost efficient ways for a Forest Company to have a structure that would handle the weight . This picture is from the Les Way Collection . It is a Suspension Bridge crossing the San Juan River , It was built around1957-58 when the logging rail road between Bear Cr. Camp and Beach Camp was shut down . The Bear Cr. road system on the South side of the San Juan Valley was connected to the Harris Cr M/L on the North side of the San Juan valley to haul logs to Log Dump at the North Arm of the San Juan River .What kind of bridge would you classify that as? Sort of a cross between suspension and cable stayed.
