Got the first valve assembly out on the Gradall, picking up a rebuild kit this week.

Any tips or advice on rebuilding valves? From the service manual it looks fairly straightforward...but those are the famous first words.

Thanks!

EDIT: I apologize for the hand of the un-dead in the top of the picture....guess its Halloween.

Clean, Clean and Clean
Watch out for the peeling paint, nasty stuff.
Be vary careful when you remove the spool, it might be a little sticky after so many years of use.
Watch for any nicks, or scratches.
When you take it apart lay it out as it comes apart and watch the orientation of things. A picture is worth a thousand words, take lots as you take it apart
If you need to polish the spool use crocus cloth
Clean, clean clean before you assemble
Lubricate everything before you put together, what ever kind of hyd oil you use in the unit
Proper torque for the studs holding the segments together.

Number one rule of hydraulics, keep it clean.

Make sure you replace every o ring in it, nothing worse then skipping a $0.25 "0" ring because you didn't have it then having to do the job again:Banghead
