Hello everyone,

I posted some time ago about a friend of mine's 977L with fuel delivery problems, ie. won't run. I finally had a chance to go look at the machine and talk to him, and he did have someone knowledgeable (apparently) working on it and they determined the plungers in the injector pump are seized as it's been sitting for at least 10 years without being run. We're trying now to track down a new or good used pump but I couldn't find any part numbers on the pump itself. The machine is a 977L, S/N 11K8762 and the engine is a 3306, S/N 3N4302. Can anybody tell me the Part Number for the Injector pump so I can look around for one? If we can't find one for a reasonable price we'll take this one off and get it sent for rebuild... The engine does still turn over and the rest of the machine actually looks in reasonably decent condition...

You can remove the filter head, remove the large flat cover to access the plungers.
The only thing that you have to watch for is. a spring and plastic valve.. not a big deal.
The pump is going to be completely full of fuel so go slow till it drains.
You can also remove the injector lines from the pump [6] and squirt a GOOD penetrating oil in each connector on the pump..
let it sit a few hrs and try to move the rack that you accessed by removing the cover.
Keep bumping the engine over until the rack moves freely and the plungers go up and down..
DO NOT force the rack.. you will break the metering sleeves.. let the penetrating oil do its job..
A day or 2 of light labor and a can of spray is going to be a heck of a lot cheaper than a pump..
Once you get the pump pumping..DO NOT try to start it without getting the injectors checked first.. Good Luck.

It is very common on the old Cats that have set awhile to have stuck plungers. They normally come use quite easily as thepumpguys said. Be careful not to scratch them up.
