650J Trouble

Hi guys,
We are having trouble with our 650J, the machine is pretty new, only about 700hrs on it. When you start the machine, sometimes it will run fine for a few hours, sometimes for just a few minutes. It seems to randomly throw trouble code F9AA. This reads as 'MDU fails to self-configure.' :beatsme The machine will drop to idle and you can not throttle up anymore. It still moves but only at a crawl. If anyone can provide any help with this it would be greatly appreciated, as we need to get it going. What does that trouble code mean?
Thanks,
Brian

My boss has talked with the dealer and they aren't sure what exactly is wrong. They have suggested that the computer is faulty. They said that if this wasn't the case then they would have to go through and trace all of the wires...:Banghead I was kind of hoping that maybe someone on here had seen a problem like this and could suggest a fix. We are just hoping it isn't the 1800 dollar computer. I ran the machine for about 4-5 hours today with no problems at all. Hopefully it stays that way

Their are only two warranty claims I saw and they were all PIPS. Doesn't mean there isn't more however these are what Deere shows in their records. No easy repair on this one, but you can do a few things yourself. First I would pull the monitor and check the connections behind the monitor. Especially the CAN wires which are the three that are twisted together. Do the same at the ECU and check the harness at where it goes into the cab.
Also there has been problems with the newer s/n break on this machine for this problem, but should not be relevant in this case. Your dealer should probably be the one to fix this issue if you need the machine up quickly. I know its expensive to have the dealer fix it, but your problem can be hard to diagnose with out the use Deere Diagnostic equipment. Unless of course you have Service Advisor for customers. Report back at let me know if you have SA and I can help you more.

I'm guessing that a SA is a person who works for the Deere dealer? I'm not familiar with the term. Thanks for your reply.

I haven't been able to talk to my contact Western, but it sounds like NCBSCHZZT has the info you need. For the most part the 650J has been a very good tractor, but I guess anything can have it's problems. Good Luck!

SA is Service Advisor the John Deere Diagnostic software. I think the dealer is going to be best suited to fix this problem.

Hello Gents,
My name is Chad, Im a mechanic for the US Army and I have ran into the same problem with a JD 700J. I ran the dozer for about three hours, the same thing happened to it, the machine dropped to an idle and wont throttle up, everything works (blade, forword, reverse) and its giving me the same code F9AA. I was reading your forums and i was wondering what was the final repair to fix it. Also going to a dealer is out of the question for i am currently deployed in Iraq, If there is anything you guys could suggest Im all ears.
thanks Gentleman
