Problem: 1985 Champion 720A motor grader when I turn on the isolation switch, the control/gear box lights up on the display and it won’t start.

Before I started working on it, the grader kept stalling when in operation giving me error codes 2.7 (No power to solenoid circuits) and 4.2 (Neutral restart error).

What I’ve Done:
  • I have just replaced solenoids A and B, they click when I turn the key switch on.
  • I tried checking the starter and solenoid assembly using the screwdriver trick and it only sparks (the solenoid doesn’t engage).
  • Using a multimeter, I’ve tested the lower terminal on the starter solenoid and grounding the other test lead to the alternator with no continuity.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
