I’d imagine 3 or 4 group 31 batteries is what it would take. Usually threaded post wired parallel (all positives together and all negatives together).

Two 6volt batteries in series?
I’m pretty sure it’ll be a 12 volt system.
Have seen 6 volt batteries in series or there used to be some running a single, large, 12v group D battery.

What series Cummins, L10 or NT? The engines will need pretty severe CCA to roll them over two group 31's won't do it or if will not for long. Being a mid seventies unit look for a Series Parallel switch as many of these came 24/12 start/charge where may have had four group 4 six volts.

L10 did not come out intel about 85 but he could have a K model also. He could have some odd oversized battery option due to location. Any way to get a picture of that battery box set up? Google series parallel switch and look for one of those.

Most likely a transplant if L10, old enough for that. S2500 chassis were powered with most any engine including underpowered DT engines for example, our own MODOT had them so may only have a two battery box.

Seen quite a few 290's in 2500 series cornbinders, even a Formula 350 in one. DOT truck... imagine that.

Most of the ones I worked were for Gelco/Feld Truck Rental Fleet. Most all those were 290 and 350 Cummins, had one with a 3406 in early 80's and a few with 6V92 for Dowell Services.
