I have a 544 loader here that I just bought and was wondering if the adjustment for the brake is the threaded rod that runs to the actual brake. If I shorten it it should pull the shoes tighter? It just holds at present but not enough to stop the machine from rolling.I have ordered a manual which I hope to get next week. Thanks in advance for any help.

Anything you can do to shorten the cable or linkage to the brakes will make them tighter, I'm saying this generally without knowing your particular machine. Many machines have a knob on the end of the brake lever that can be tightened up too, just turn it clockwise.
