Cat 246 Intermittent Parking Brake Issue

Just wanted to post an update on the issue...it ended up being a low battery. It had been needing to be jump started occasionally (depending on how long it sat). I replaced the battery and the issue hasn't returned. Now I need to locate the parasitic draw that's causing the battery issue.

Cat 246 Intermittent Parking Brake Issue

S/N 5SZ0XXXX A couple of days ago I noticed that sometimes when I release the parking brake, the loader controls still do not work; but the drive controls do. It’s usually a series of toggling the parking brake on and off and it eventually releases all of the controls. My guess is it may be a...

Cat 246: Repairing A Quick Attach Coupler

To disassemble, is it just a matter of loosening and removing the nut (#13, I believe) and it will all (theoretically) come free?

Cat 246: Repairing A Quick Attach Coupler

S/N 5SZ0XXXX The LH coupler will not fully disengage without a decent amount of applied impact shock (mini-sledge hammer). It's been this way since I bought the machine, but it hadn't been much of an issue since I rarely changed attachments. But nowadays I do change out attachments more often...

    Cat 246: Tilt Cylinder Bushings?

Is this something a 2" annular cutter on a magnetic drill could accomplish or does it need a true line boring machine to do?

    Cat 246: Tilt Cylinder Bushings?

Thanks for the info...glad to see there's a solution.

    Cat 246: Tilt Cylinder Bushings?

There is some play with some occasional 'creak' and 'pop' where the tilt cylinders connect to the bucket. Are there bushings there that I could replace to address that issue? 5SZ07867

    Cat 246 - Strange Sound w/Drive Issues

Is there a way to specifically test for that or is that done only through visual inspection?

    Cat 246 - Strange Sound w/Drive Issues

Is that something that would be intermittent? My machine operates normally for a few hours and for no apparent reason it begins to squeak and if I keep using it, within a couple minutes it turns into a grind, with noticeable resistance.

    Cat 246 - Strange Sound w/Drive Issues

Thank you Nige, that info was very helpful. More than likely I will have a mechanic buddy help me. He's a diesel mechanic, but he occasionally works on construction equipment - but I don't think he's ever rebuilt one of these though. I'm assuming only the damaged/worn parts would need to be...

    Cat 246 - Strange Sound w/Drive Issues

I checked the axles and they all seemed okay. But, the issue intermittently persisted so I took it into Caterpillar. Being an intermittent problem it took a while for the symptoms to appear. But they did, and they were able to determine that the sound is coming from the left drive motor - not a...

    Cat 246 - Strange Sound w/Drive Issues

Is there aanything I can do to confirm this? I'm assuming each wheel has its own set of bearings?

    Cat 246 - Strange Sound w/Drive Issues

Out of nowhere my machine starts to make a noise that sounds kinda like tires squeaking on a polished concrete floor. It even sounds like it's coming from the wheel/tires - but that's clearly not what's going on. Whatever it is also affects the ability to drive it - it feels like something is...

Cat 246 Hydraulic Leak - Lift Cylinder?

Interesting...yeah, I think I remember seeing overspray on both lines, but the one is pretty dark compared to the other one. I don't really see any obvious damage to it, but I'm thinking the problem my lie where it connects to the cylinder? Here's another photo I took the other evening that...

Cat 246 Hydraulic Leak - Lift Cylinder?

I've recently noticed hydraulic oil along the right hand side of the body of my Cat 246. I can't seem to see an active leak while I'm running the machine and I haven't had to add any hydraulic oil, but it's definitely leaking from the area of the (front end of the) right side lift cylinder...

Cat 246 Broken Connector to Solenoid on Joystick

Neither set of wires had any printing on them. I plugged the longer pair into the new solenoid and the shorter pair to the hanging plug. Fired it up and everything worked. Thanks @Chrisso and @kshansen for the help!
