    White smoke/milky oil AGAIN

So it seems the thermostat housing gasket failed, and coolant probably seeped into the crankcase somehow. I fixed the housing and there's no more milky oil... but now I have another problem... I'm getting low engine oil pressure. Confirmed with a manual gauge that it's low- on startup it's 15...

    White smoke/milky oil AGAIN

Visual inspection only, I'm afraid. I should note it's only got 1600 hours on it, and it has the "Deluxe" control panel that'll show me if anything is wrong. Today for example, it told me there was "critically low engine oil pressure".

    White smoke/milky oil AGAIN

A few months ago I was driving my bobcat T180 around, and it suddenly blew the rear plug and white smoke was blowing out the exhaust. I wasn't sure what it was, but after doing some searches I saw people suggesting a cracked head or a bad head gasket. SO, I disassembled and rebuilt the engine...

T180 spewing oil out back of engine, white smoke

While I was working in my bobcat today, I realized white smoke coming out the back (but not the exhaust). When I shut it down, I realized it was also spewing engine oil (tasted and smelled it!) out the fan vents. I couldn't identify the exact source of the leak, but it seemed to be coming from...

Mustang/Gehl/Neuson Excavator shutting down every few minutes

It turned out to be an obstruction in the fuel line. Why it didn't actually feel like it, I don't know. Drained the tank twice, but I think what actually helped was blowing compressed air through the line. I think there were several BIG pieces that were somehow making their way. Now I have a...

Mustang/Gehl/Neuson Excavator shutting down every few minutes

I was thinking about a sensor switch, however, when it did overheat (if the belt tension is too loose, so the fan doesn't blow fast enough), the light simply came on, and the engine just kept running. I don't think it has that kind of capability. Likewise regarding oil pressure, there is no...

Mustang/Gehl/Neuson Excavator shutting down every few minutes

It doesn't sputter or surge, just dies gracefully. The engine is a Yanmar Diesel 3TNV88. I have the service manual for it. The separator didn't seem to have any water in it. The thing actually doesn't have a fuel cap. Could be a bad stop solenoid? Would that cause the weird restart issues I'm...

Mustang/Gehl/Neuson Excavator shutting down every few minutes

My mini excavator has recently started shutting down every few minutes; it seems to happen more often if I'm using it - it usually, but not always shuts down when I'm in middle of engaging the ground, but sometimes will also shut down when it's idle. I've checked fuel flow-- the air filter, fuel...

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

How do I get the bolts off that are holding the front housing in place? The "cheap" repair guy hasn't responded to me yet, and I'm thinking it's still more cost effective to save this motor, as it's a motor in good condition, it probably just has a seal broken somewhere.

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

Got the motor off. It's super heavy. How do I plug the hydraulic lines? what kind of thread does it take? can I stuff somerhing in there?

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

From what I've seen though, the final drive is divided into two parts, there's the business end which is in the back, and there's the front housing end, which it seems is what is damaged. There's a guy locally that claims to repair final drives for $1.2k on FB marketplace, let's see if it's legit.

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

Wow, his machine is so clean... all of those nuts in the back are horribly rusted and caked with god knows what. I've managed to get them loose but I might just take an angle grinder and cut off those bolts. They're nasty. Also, that video is basically him spending an hour removing the motor...

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

Well, the other side is a wash. I got the top bolt out almost as a hollow shell with a reverse bit... The bottom, I tried drilling through, but I drilled at the wrong angle apparently. At first I was wondering why the drive oil was so nice and clear. Then I saw it was quite a lot of it... then...

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

and I still haven't done the other side yet! In order to try and flush as much of the shavings out, I flushed it with 80w90 gear oil before putting the real thing. I don't think there were any actual shavings in there (other than perhaps fine metallic dust). And here I thought that removing...

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

I ended up drilling through the fill plug. I poured some oil and welded it shut.

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

I got the bottom plug out using speed out, the top plug still won't move. It's draining (black) oil. I can try and inject the new oil using a syringe. Would that work?

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

I have much bigger problems now, but I think it ended up being either a 1/4 3/8 bolt. Was a pretty tight fit

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

This idea sounds like the "nuclear option" to me. But I'm listening. How do I minimize contamination with shavings? I guess it's a pretty tight space as it only takes about 2 oz of oil. Maybe I can weld through the case, drain/fill, and then weld back on top? Would slag get inside the housing...

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

If I can drill deep enough to create a hole for the torx, I'll go for it. What's the worst-case scenario if I drill through the bolt?

Can't loosen sprocket bolts on T-180

The bolt is rusted and not just stripped. In this case the main challenge is actually figuring out what would grab on to the plug rather than how to get it to move. I can't get anything to weld to it without also getting weld on the case. I tried welding + grinding and I suppose it worked for a...
