    Block warmer use

Well, the alternator is definately a Delco and either I fixed it or it was working all along. Any idea what the wiring on the connector to the right does? The ground wire fell apart on me so I rewired and then I tested after I raised the engine speed and its working as you said it should...

    Block warmer use

Good point, I was measuring in slow speed and usually use it in slow or bump it up a touch when using the hoe. I never use it in fast. The only thing I use are some fans that are installed when its hot. I will retest when I get a chance.

    Block warmer use

It doesn't look like the stock alternator in there. Looks like it might be a 1 wire delco that ive been reading about. Anyway, it doesnt seem to be working. Any ideas how to get the right alternator for it? There are three options at the parts store 37amp, 51 amp, 65 amp (from memory)

    Block warmer use

Ok, sounds like I have the next thing to look at. Found the section in the manual for test. Thanks!

    Block warmer use

Thanks, that voltage drop test makes sense. If the alternator was dead, how long would I be able to run off battery? It has two 12V in parallel. I have never charged them until now. I put at least 10, probably 15hrs on the clock this year, since its been acting funny. Could never get that far...

    Block warmer use

Took me a while to get home with some daylight and work this. I took the batteries out, charged them, and cleaned the connections and it fired right up. Probably not a good sign for the batteries right? I did not remove them and put them on tenders for the winter. They read 55% according to...

    Block warmer use

I haven't used ether in the year and a half I owned it, cant say anything about the previous owner(s). It started right up all last summer. Seems like looking at the battery and connections is a good place to start, or maybe it just isn't warming up from the cooler overnight temperatures.

    Block warmer use

I have an 86 JD 410B. Any guidance on what temperatures I should expect to have to plug in the warmer? I find I am still having to plug it in before use even though its been in the 50s, sometimes 60s here in NH. Is that normal? I just did all my filter/fluid changes for the season with 10w...

    JD410B Oil in Coolant

Found the heater, looks like an add on and had a hose running out of the block, just pulled the hose and drained it. Ran water through it and radiator, filled it, ran the machine for a while to finish a stump. Drained it again, flushed and filled it. Next question is how much oil is too much...

    JD410B Oil in Coolant

Ok, my manual looks photocopied so picture is really fuzzy. It already has a plug in coolant heater. Would that be it? I can take that panel off and check it out.

    JD410B Oil in Coolant

No leaks. Anyone know where the block drain is on the 410b and how to get to it? The picture in the manual is awful

    JD410B Oil in Coolant

Finally got my manuals in the mail. It does say to leave the coolant an inch low. I am going to check for leaks and flush this weekend. Looks like TM says a max pressure of 10psi?

    JD410B Oil in Coolant

OK, maybe I should just start with a flush? I do want to find the coolant leak. Do you know if the standard auto coolant pressure checkers will fit the JD radiator?

    JD410B Oil in Coolant

Hard to really say how much oil. Looks like its a few drops that float up to the top when I fill it. I take my time and let it run out the relief hose at the top of the radiator. I have never flushed the system, I just got the machine right before the snow last year so with snow and now mud, I...

    JD410B Oil in Coolant

I am seeing a little bit of oil in the radiator every time I top it off. Tractor runs fine all day and I did not see anything but oil when I did an oil change. If I understand right, the places to check are the oil cooler, head gasket, and liners. Am I missing anything? I wanted to start...

    1985 John Deere 410B Questions

I ended up buying the OM from the dealer, $69. It didnt even occur to me that mud season is the busiest time of the year for them with everyone getting machines ready while its too wet to use them. I also scored a used tech manual (TM1285) for $100. It covers the 410B and 510B. It looks like...

Thanks for the tip, that looks promising.

    1985 John Deere 410B Questions

Does anybody know a good source to get the manuals for the JD 410B? I think there is an Operators, Parts, Repair, and Technical, any others that I should be looking for? The local dealer has been slow to respond with pricing and availability and it looks like there are a few different...
