Where do I search for operators?

Just to put a bow on this thread..... I ended up putting on my big boy pants and doing it myself. I'm no skinner but I think I might have earned some kind of merit badge. It was one pucker moment after another but I got the job done. I never imagined a 9-ton machine could just jump 6 inches...

    D4K2 blade lift hydraulic capacity

Ah well I appreciate the suggestion but there isn't any logging operations within a hundred miles of here or more.

    D4K2 blade lift hydraulic capacity

I like your thinking. The road is just too twisty and sketchy for that though. Maybe a short trailer....

    D4K2 blade lift hydraulic capacity

Well it's hard to describe but about half a mile and up a hill so steep my F350 can't make it. I would say a wheel barrow, fork lift, or skid steer is out. Haha. My Plan is liberal application of Uni-strut, plywood and strapping.

    D4K2 blade lift hydraulic capacity

Well I think the whole 2 tons would be a bit much. You're right that it would be pretty unstable. I was thinking more along the 500 to 600 lbs range. Also adding a few hundred pounds on the rippers in the back to balance things a bit

    D4K2 blade lift hydraulic capacity

I need to temporarily convert my D4K into a D4k-lift. ;) My question is how much additional weight beyond the blade itself, can the lift hydraulics handle? I guess I could ask are there any accessories (such as a root rake) that can be used on the blade and how much do those weigh? I have...

Where do I search for operators?

Oh my! I didn’t expect so many responses. First, let me say it’s my dozer so I just need the operator. My insurance is good. The job is to regrade an abandoned road. But before you get visions of a 5-lane highway, this road would be better described as a 10 foot-wide trail. And that brings...

Where do I search for operators?

I have a task for a dozer operator. I just don't have the seat time to be confident enough to do it myself. So I thought I would look around to see if anyone was looking for a side job. I have no clue where to start looking. Any tips?

    CAT approved biocide?

hmmm well this was more of a learning opportunity than I thought! I love posting to this forum. Much less of the "attacking the NOOB" attitude around here. Ok so what I thought was diesel bugs was a brownish slime forming not in my tractor but in the bottom of a plastic 5-gal tote I had as a...

    CAT approved biocide?

I've got a lot of money tied up in my newish D4K2. The LAST thing I can afford is to do something foolish. I noticed a tiny bit of diesel bugs in one of my 5 gal containers. I keep the tank on my dozer full to the absolute top but I want to be a bit more proactive. Is there a CAT approved...

How to save your dozer in a forest fire

Average rainfall in this part of California is 15"/year. This year we only got 7". Add to that 14,000 lightning strikes in one night and you got yourself a problem. This is just a cabin we are talking about so who cares. There were so many people that lost their homes and everything in them.

How to save your dozer in a forest fire

This is part of the CSU Lightning Complex Fire. In particular this pic is taken on the northern boarder of Henry Coe State Park. Interesting comment from Cal Fire - they said the likely reason the crew tried to save our shack is because we already created a defensible space. If they see a...

How to save your dozer in a forest fire

We only had a few minutes to do something. So I found a flat spot and cleared it as fast as possible. I wish I had time to cover the exposed hydraulic lines but it turned out fine anyway. This is as close as it gets! P.S. My hat is off to Cal Fire. Those guys did a great job saving our...

2oz mouse takes down 9 ton dozer D4K2

As soon as I clicked "Post Reply"... I think I found it by digging from the top down - 327-6175 HARNESS AS-DASH There has to be a better way.

2oz mouse takes down 9 ton dozer D4K2

Maybe not the right thread but it's a little related. I looked for the replacement harness on parts.cat.com but came up empty handed. I find it very hard to browse the parts on that site. The schematic lists the harness I want as "FC" but obviously that isn't the correct part number. I can't...

2oz mouse takes down 9 ton dozer D4K2

Yeah I’ve heard about the moth ball thing. I haven’t tried it yet but hey pretty cheap experiment. I’ve heard the same thing about peppermint oil. Something about the smell they don’t like.

2oz mouse takes down 9 ton dozer D4K2

Actually I had a previous thread that discussed many codes I was getting. A person (maybe it was you!) sent me this document. I have not been able to track this one down yet. Again wonderfully helpful document (and site!)
