    Koehring 405 questions

Your crane is worth at least $6-9k for scrap and someone should be able to remove it for free. If it sat for 30 years it would be unlikely to run again. I scrapped a railway crane that also sat for 30 years. It looked okay from the outside but it became obvious that the crane cannot be made...

    48 Year Old Grove RT60S

So I have a 1974 Grove RT60S crane that actually works. This picture is from yesterday. Something happened yesterday though that made me think. A hydraulic oil return hose on the way to the radiator broke because of age and made a mess. We kind of plugged it to use for the day, but it is...

Bought a Bucyrus Erie 30B lattice boom 60 ton crane

Thanks. I am not sure what I will do with it. I have a machinery moving/rigging business, and mostly do scrap metal (heavy equipment removal for scrap) nowadays. I do have an RT crane that I learned to operate.

Bought a Bucyrus Erie 30B lattice boom 60 ton crane

Does anyone know of a good website or instruction manual on how to operate a friction crane? I looked around and did not find anything.

Bought a Bucyrus Erie 30B lattice boom 60 ton crane

So, in principle, you can add an extra section? All I need is to find something for sale right?

Bought a Bucyrus Erie 30B lattice boom 60 ton crane

DO you know any videos on how to take it apart? I literally have no clue but would like to learn. Does it need a beam trailer?

Bought a Bucyrus Erie 30B lattice boom 60 ton crane

I know that it is kind of crazy but I bought this at auction today for $11k plus BP. Pictures are here: https://www.machinerymoverschicago.com/blog/Bucyrus-Erie-30B-Crane.jpg/ It supposedly has a rebuilt Cat 3306 engine. It was owned by Archer-Daniel-Midland company which makes corn syrup and...

    Old conventionals at work

The boom on the ground seems to have very little damage! How could it happen that it came down so gently? I do realize that it was, clearly, some sort of a fail, but I cannot imagine what actually transpired. Wire rope broke? Or the brake failed, while still somewhat functioning?

Good hard hat that stays attached?

I use hard hats, but I also actually work in them, for example bending down, etc. They do not really stay attached and often fall, which I hate. Any suggestions for hard hats that just hold on well somehow and are generally comfortable?

    Just some work pics

It was definitely worth the time. It did not take that many days, but we could not work in freezing weather because my crane does not work in freezing weather. I think that the air dryer is not functioning or something. So the project got delayed and my crane stayed there all winter. Nice...

    Just some work pics

The last of railway crane is gone. (it was really a dragline) The middle piece, the bottom swing box, was so heavy we had to bring a counterweighted forklift to lift from the other side, forklift on one side and crane on the other side, to put on a truck.

Grove RT60S drives, then does not, then drives again

The problem, I think, was lack of oil, we added trans oil and it seems to be okay for now. That was the right suggestion! Thanks to all!!!

    PPM ATT400 - Electrical Swivel

Can you describe what is your exact problem with electrical shorts? It is very hard to create electrical shorts in a swivel. Does it happen as you swing the crane?
