I looked for a level on the machine and in the computer. I might keep a small magnetic one in the cab for reference.

    Komatsu Pc270lc-8 jerky hydraulic

I can check the manual on monday but what's L and P mode? I noticed it on the screen in the one I'm running.

    Grade Tips

Just finished my first week operating full time, been in construction for 14 years though. Loving life, doing material processing in a Komatsu 360 on stockpiles. I have quite a bit of experience in smaller machines. I'm having a tougher time than I expected getting used to eyeballing grades...

    Paint and Prep Help

Thanks Ct Farmer. I've heard of the degreaser suggestion. Do you need to do a thorough rinse wash? I've wondered about residual soap residue. Do you need to avoid hydraulic hoses or can you really hit everything that isn't electronic as long as you aren't blasting it? What do you...

    Paint and Prep Help

Hello all, its been a long while since I've posted here due to life and work events. I'm actually switching careers right now and about to start a job as an operator for a local sitework and landscaping company. I'm hoping this will give me time and a constant income stream to continue...

    Aging and Wrenching

I spent a few years with Cianbro (profile pic related) and if you know them they are HUGE on safety....especially PPE. We had mandatory company stretching routines 1 to 2 times a day. Some would say they were very excessive in many areas!! But they encouraged employees to use company gear at...

    The Great Gradall Project

Well well......its been a while since I've updated this thread. Been a few kids and career hops along the way. Took advantage of the long weekend and actually did some real work on this thing. If you haven't read the previous thread, I got my hands on this Gradall real cheap....and there were...

    The Great Gradall Project

Its been on hold due to life....but we are resurrecting it. Had an electrical design meeting tonight and we are forging the new schematic. Been a year or so.....had our first little girl. I can't wait to get her out turning wrenches and working with daddy. Hope to get this thread off the...

    Question About Milling Rock?

Scrub Puller.....looking at 2700 square yards. That's not all at 2.5-3', it tapers to nearly zero on the ends. Basically 700' of road at a roughly 35' width. Probably half of it is NOT going to interfere with bedrock, but we're hampered with sparse info. Only two borings in this...

    Question About Milling Rock?

Hey all, I am working on the conceptual design for a rapid bridge replacement project in NH. The major issue with this location is not the bridge....its the profile of the roadway. To meet modern standards for vertical curves, grades, and sight distance, the road needs to come down up to...

    Tricks of the Trade

When grading, try to keep the end of the boom centered over the swath you're working. This does two things....you adjust the boom elevation evenly on both sides of the arc (up a bit then down a bit). It is also *usually* when the stick cylinder is more or less working with the most mechanical...

    The Great Gradall Project

Hey guys! Sorry about the delay... I do have some pictures of work that happened just after this that I will post. Unfortunately most of the time since hasn't involved forward progress due to two more urgent projects that came up: The first was a local theater that myself and Pat are...

    Trenching in Deere 200

A few more pictures as we were finishing up. The 160G. I loved this thing. Paul was stacking extra fill: A few inches of gravel and you wouldn't know we were here! A fun weekend with some good toys!

    Trenching in Deere 200

Another day of fun! Time to put it all back again... I tried compacting it as best I could. This was the awesome little track loader the maintenance guy had....a JD 350C. They had me go up the dirt road a ways to put a ditch in where the road met a neighbor's driveway. They were...

Shopping for Excavator but the Alphabet Soup is driving me crazy.

If you're looking to put in new driveways and make money at it....I'd stay over 9,000lbs. Stumps and big rocks are a bear for a 4.5-5 ton machine and I can't imagine going after them with something smaller. Could you do it? Probably. Would you make money at it? Prolly not. I would agree...

    Trenching in Deere 200

We moved some serious dirt... Finishing up the trench from the side....always annoying. Get to go back and finish the trench, dig some stumps, and do some road work tomorrow! We also have a sweet little JD 350 track loader and a JD mini-tractor with loader. Having fun!!!!

    Trenching in Deere 200

Got my diggity-dig on! My day started with the news that Hertz had dropped off a 160 instead of a 120. Very fun! Biggest machine I've run on a job.....pulled levers in a few bigger ones, but no digging. Newer Deere G-series, very easy to run and figure out. First impression was that...

    Trenching in Deere 200

Oooh....were you referring to 10ths of a foot? That would make sense.... I guess I've been away from surveying/layout for too long... I agree with not stepping it. As an engineer by trade, a bench is NOT the same as a slope! I think he's licensed for the work in Maine, but I'll check. He...

    Trenching in Deere 200

Thanks for the input Colorado Digger! I'll definitely take pics! We might go deeper.....its a girl's summer camp that is winterized so I think that mitigates some of the concern. So you find that just knocking the slopes into the trench and keep yarding it out at grade is faster than digging...
