    fleetguard filters

I know that when things go haywire , some of the manufactuers do use the competition to keep production up... Kralinator often had filters assembled by Fram using their paper at the Stratford On plant .. Purolator also did that on occasion... I know that now that many of the Fram filters are...

I worked at a Mack dealer . We used Valvoline there . When i was at International we sold Rotella and a few others , International had their own packaged oils also .. The only actual test i watched was a comparision of Quaker State vs Pennzoil .. It was done by a Lucas rep.. The Pennzoil had...

What is the proper way to chain tracked equipment?

I recently saw a tracked machine that was tied from the inside of track . It had tie down holes and the float had D-Rings on the inside of main beams .. It was nicely done , but I bet the scale masters often red lighted it to look at how it was tied ...

fifth wheel plate or ball any preferences

I used to sell Fontaine Fifth Wheels . They built. Smaller unit 35,000 pull and I think it was 5,000 down .. The Fifth wheel has a higher rating then a gooseneck ball .. Most goosenecks are built far narrower , which can be a plus in some off highway situations . You also don't have to use...

" If it wants Off , Let it off "

i remember a man lift that was chained to a 50 ton sliding axle trailer. When the solenoid screwed up and lifted the boom up , breaking the strap and removing the basket on a overpass. The basket ended up hitting a Hostess delivery van. The end result was a bent 50 ton trailer , it was chained...

    how to: oil bath axles?

The big truck manufacturers have gone from oil to grease and back to oil in the last 10 years...If it is a smaller trailer , i would change to grease and check them Yearly.. The biggest failure is lack of servicing , if you check them at every safety check you should have no problems with...

    heavy duty gooseneck

If you were to go with a fifthwheel set up , recess the fifth wheel and put a removable cover over it . Make the neck a bit higher to allow the king pin to go into the recessed area to grab the wheel.. You have flat bed still and a good strong coupling for trailer also..

    My New Trailer

Having the ball forward certainly helps keep the front axle loaded properly..I have often seen short box pick ups with not enough weight up front , despite having a gooseneck trailer.. Makes for a dangerous handling combination.

    heavy duty gooseneck

If you are set on a ball style coupler the only one that I know of is made by Holland Hitch and it is a 5" ball rated at 80,000 pull and 8,000 lbs tongue weight.. The advantage of a fifth wheel vs a ball is the tongue or vertical load... We used the 5" ball on a 2 axle "pony " grain box for...

So, what about them Steiger tractors??

Not too sure about Steiger being the start , Versatile dates back to he late 60's with some big units also.. Then they were bought by Ford late 80's . sold to Buhler in 2000.. They all have their good / bad points. Steiger dates into late 50's.
