    pond cleaning bid

Having spent thirty years cleaning out ponds when a senario like this presents itself I run like hell. The owners don't know what they want and whatever you do won't please them. First thing I do is look at the back of the dam. Have seen more than a few that the mud was as deep as the dam is...

    D6D final drive

If your plan is to take it to a shop I wouldn't worry about pressing the hub back on. Slide it on the splines and tighten the nut up against it. Put the outer hub on and set the bearings up. Move it and load it.

    After market under carriage

We have DCF heavy duty rails on two 6HXL's. Seem to be wearing very well. We quit Burco because of dry links at 2500 hours.

Support roller or what do you call them?

We have them on 6HXL's. Wouldn't be without them. Rails run smoother without whipping in reverse. I spend quite a bit of time pushing mud cleaning out ponds and have never had a stuck roller. Winter running one better clean out around them.

    Removing Stumps

When we in north Mo. get into ajob like yours we would rather work by the hour. If the customer wants a bid they will get one but we learned a long time ago to bid high to protect ourselves. Depending on how many stumps per acre $1800.00 might be shy of cost. All depends on ground conditions and...

Will be sixty five next month. Spent lots of time in dozers semi's combines tractors and other machinery. Learned real quick to ride anthing loose. Stiffing up and bracing for jolts always hurt more than just enjoying the ride. Good seats help but I still enjoy running a 17A cable with a...

    pond cleanout methods

The ones that are the most fun are those that have been fixed sometime. Work off of both sides down about eight feet to the waterline building up the dam. Makes the bottom look like a large M. We let the mud set at least three years before knocking down and smoothing up. Still find soft spots. I...

    pond cleanout methods

We cut the dam to drain the water then set the excavator where we want to throw most of the mud. I start on one side pushing to the excavator with a dozer. Generally takes two days to clean the mud and rebuild. We cut the dam where we will run the stock water pipe out and throw the mud on the...

    D7E track tightener help

I did a late model 17A without breaking the rail. If the tie rod through the recoil spring is in good shape and the threads and nut are good. Put a couple of pieces of pipe in the sprocket and collapes the recoil spring. Run the tie rod nut up and let the tension off the track. Unbolt the idler...

    Cable vs. hydraulic

It's nice to know that one of these days I will be able to operate a steam powered cable dozer. Never laugh at any technology because someday you might be asked to operate it.
