    Need a new laser-Spectra G422?

Rat_Power_78, You can't go wrong with a Spectra laser. I have one we have used for over 20 years and it still works great. We don't have a G422N, but a newer GL622. The CR600 receiver can be both rod or machine mounted. Check E-bay, etc. and you'll find some packages with tri-pod, case (2)...

    Looking for portable screen setup

Take a look at the Pitbull screens made in Lake Erie, PA. I bought one a year and so far we love it. It has a stacker and can be towed behind a dump truck. The production rates they quote are real and not just best case. They will stand behind it and assist with any issues you may have. I just...

    Sage 100 Contractor Software??

rudy116, The single user cost of Sage 100 Contractor was between $10,000.00-$15,000.00, depending on how much training is required. Sage sells through resellers and the information you get on which modules you actually need and the amount of training they say you need is night and day different...

    Sage 100 Contractor Software??

rudy116, Thanks for your response and info. I have had a demo with Sage and it seems good, but I have heard their support is horrible. I am also looking at Foundation Software which integrates well with my estimating software, B2W. I have a demo scheduled with them on Tuesday. Also, I got info...

    Sage 100 Contractor Software??

Having outgrown QuickBooks, I am researching construction accounting software to replace it. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with Sage 100 Contractor? I know it's pricey, but I have found over the years, you usually get what you pay for. Thanks for any help.

spectra-physics laserplane 220 rotates but laser wont turn on.

I think if it's a 1995 model you are crazy to put much into repairs. Laser repair can get expensive fast. I would take a hard look at Spectra Precision lasers again. Bosch may be ok, but that is not really their business. We have used Spectras for 25 years with almost zero issues. Spectra make a...

    Electric trench help

    150' long x 2.5' deep x 3.5' wide = 1312.5 cu.ft. /27cu.ft./CY = 48.6CY With a 5 ton machine you should easily be able to dig 15cy/hr. 50cy/15cy/hr = 3hr.s, 20 min.s or 4 hours. 4 hours x $95.00/hr = $380.00 to dig 4 hours x $95.00/hr = $380.00 to backfill & grade 1 hour x $125.00 =...

Best electric grease gun for the money

We have had Lincoln's, Milwaukee and DeWalt. The Lincoln was good but the Dewalt was by far the best one. Two of our Milwaukee guns broke down in 6 months. One kept losing its prime and both of them blew the threaded grease hose fitting out of the barrel. If you get on a fitting that won't take...

    hauling charge program

I don't know of a specific program, but what I do for bidding jobs is to simply type in the address in Google Maps and it gives you a distance from your location. By regularly tracking our trucking time by the miles traveled and the time required, I have a very good historic value (estimate) of...

    Earthwork & Utility Estimating Software

Heavy&Civil, RBMcCloskey, You both sound so much like my company. I am a long time AutoCAD LDD & Civil 3D user and we do a lot of our own site design and development. In my opinion, and that of many of my associates, Civil 3D is more of an engineering software but not a great construction...

    Trimble GCSFlex Question

I am seriously considering a 2D Trimble GCSFlex system, but I can't seem to get a good answer on the need for the heading sensor. This sensor adds about $3,500.00 to the price. My question is, does anybody run this system with the sensor or without it and what is your experience. Thanks for any...

Final decision time.... Cat 349 vs Volvo 480

We have only had the smaller sizes, Cat 315 and Volvo 160, and from that experience I would say it's almost a toss-up. Both good machines, but I can tell you the cost per hour is less with the Volvo. Also, the Volvos, with our sizes, have brought the same money at trade time. Dealer support...

    Cat 305.5 vs Bobcat E55

I have a 4 year old 305.5E Cat and the machine is amazing. We have some much bigger excavators but dollar for dollar the 305.5E is an exceptional machine. Without exaggeration, we have added $100,000.00 a year to our gross with that machine. I have about 1800 hours on mine and it still looks and...

School Me MTL / CTL diff?

The way Cat explained to me years ago was that an MTL was more for landscaping and a CTL was more heavy duty and made for construction. Not to say you can't use a CTL for construction, but it probably won't hold up as well.

    Please help! :(

Of course the biggest unknown here is underground utilities, since it's in an industrial area. Existing utilities could throw the whole production estimate out the window very quickly. Totally agree. Also, if you have a high water table you're in for more delays and if you're loading trucks...

    excavator stick laser reciever.

Shimmy1, Thanks for all the good info you post on the forum. I think we are similar in the size and types of work we do. I had the same questions as srjd. Also, looking at the Spectra GL722 and wondered if you have used one or know anything good or bad about them. We are just about shutdown...
