    Bucket Hunt

Is it unreasonable of me to want a picture of the actual bucket they want to sell me ?? To want to know the thickness of the attaching ears ? How long should I wait for a response from the manufacturer ( through a dealer) ?? I'm a pretty easy-going person but I don't feel like throwing down $2...

    Bucket bushings

I'm trying hard to buy a new bucket for my Cat 307. I have new pins. I want new bushings, seals, etc. So, I need to know how the bushings are put it ? Can I drive them out with a punch like a wheel bearing race ? Thanks

Bucket choices>corner gussets & other things

I'm looking for a new bucket for my Cat 307. I'm seeing wide variation in styles, price and weight. Some of the design features interest me: some buckets have a square crossbeam where the ears are; some a custom (?) curved. Some have gussets in the upper corners and some don't. Do you think...

    New sneakers

Not Keds but a whole lot quieter than the stretched out steel tracks I had. Thanks to Nige for mentioning about track wear/stretch. I have some stuff to do in the woods and just couldn't get detracked again and I had no idea when the tracks were Too stretched out. They weigh 900 pounds each so...

    Bucket tooth spacing

I've been shopping for a new bucket for my Cat 307. The one I have is 28" and has 4 teeth. That seems like a nice number of teeth. First one I got a picture of from a vendor was 30" w/ 5 teeth. Next vendor, 30", it had 6 teeth. (Fleco brand) . So what is up with having lots of small teeth ? And...

Idler won't come ot far enough

A track fell off my Cat 307. The idler arm seemed to be sticking out really far. It did not retract when left on bypass overnight so I put a block of wood on the ground and gently, slowly pushed the idler wheel in with the hoe. Got the track back on. No sweat and not my first time. Now the...

    5 ton off-road grapple trailer/Honda 13 hp

Not exactly heavy equipment but maybe a person more familiar with hydraulics can help me. It won't start. The engine has about 20 hours on it, started a year ago but not this spring. I've checked lots of stuff on the engine and there is no reason for it not to start but it is direct coupled via...

Mangled steel line > replace with hose ?

The long steel line to the bucket curl that goes the whole length of the boom on my CAT 307 is leaking again. We silver soldered it once about 4 years ago. I smacked it on a tree. There is a thread here about it but I don't know how to link to it. Can I replace it with hose ? Any real good...

    40-50 wt. gear oil TD/TO

I can't find the right oil for my swing motor or final drives. NAPA and the diesel repair places don't have it. An internet search failed as did a search of this forum. I feel like it's a really stupid question but, where the heck can I get it other than Cat ? Thanks

    Big track

Saw this big track on the road the other day. Thinking it's going to take lots of trailer loads to get whatever it is together….

    1987 Case 580k fuel vent

Is there a fuel vent on my old 580K ? If so where ? I had to change the inline fuel filter down by the 'tank' and can't get the manual primer to bring up the fuel. Was thinking of pressureizing the tank with a vacuume at the tank fill. The cap doesn't seem to seal tight. Is that the vent ...

580k small mishap = total hydraulic failure ???

So I had a little mishap and the hoe rolled part way down a small embankment. Guess I should try harder to fix the darn brakes. I could get it out if the hydraulics hadn't completely failed. The machine runs and makes no strange noises, has no leaks, will move forward and back about 18"...

    Repair steel hydraulic line

The other day I asked for suggestions about repairing a badly bent line and the responses were informative and mixed. Since then, I've found another Eaton/Weatherhead product that is a hose end/ ¾ ferrule. So I have lots of choices: Weld on a fitting. Braze on a fitting Silver...

    Can I flare a ¾" hydraulic line ?

A very long line on my Cat 307 got bent, badly. The line is the whole length of the boom. About 18-20 feet ? Can I cut it and put a flare and nut on it or do I need to replace the whole line ? Is there another repair that's less expensive than replacing the whole line ( but also effective..)...

    Does your seat rock ?

The seat on my Cat 307 rocked badly and it bothered me so I fixed it. I had never seen a seat slide assembly with these rollers made from springs. Didn't seem to have worked very well. So I made some slides/spacers out of UHMWPE. Has to be better than the seat slapping up and down.
